Vibration meters are used to measure a mechanical phenomenon where there is a cyclic or oscillating motion of a machine or machine component from its rest position. In machinery, excessive vibration often results from the unbalance of rotating components that is, in turn, related to gear wear, misalignment, bearing wear, drive belt problems, etc.
An important maintenance philosophy of is that of predictive maintenance which involves the analysis of machinery performance parameters on a systematic schedule to detect developing problems before considerable damage or failure occurs.
Vibration amplitude can be measured and expressed as (1) Displacement, (2) Velocity and (3) Accleration.
